  • MIT Topology Seminar
  • The third season of the Electronic Mathematics Education Seminar will meet every other week using Zoom, starting September 10. I am happy to report that I will be joined this fall by Tara Holm in organizing this seminar. It's open to all!
    The Handbook of Homotopy Theory will be published in time for the Denver Joint Mathematics Meetings in January 2020, and available at 20% discount there. You can get the same discount if you order before the December 10 publication date. Here is the table of contents!
  • We have developed a suite of "Mathlets" for use in courses in calculus and differential equations. Many of them are now available in Javascript, which can be easier to run than the original Java. This site contains a training course, introducing the MIT Mathlets and their use.
  • The Mathlets form the basis of my participation in the MIT-Haiti Initiative. Here is a film about this initiative, prepared in conjunction with the visit to MIT by Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, and here is a piece about it written for the MIT Faculty Newsletter in August 2016.     Under a grant from J-WEL pK-12, we have just launched the Platfom MIT-Ayiti, a WordPress site designed to collect and disseminate K-12 teaching material based on the three MIT-Haiti Initiative principles of active learning, technology, and use of the mother tongue.
  • I am a local organizer for the Third International Gathering for Science in Palestine. Here is the conference website.
  • OpenCourseWare has published 18.05 Introduction to Probability and Statistics. This is a new course designed by Jerry Orloff and Jon Bloom, with assistance from Sanjoy Mahajan and made possible by a grant from the Davis Educational Foundation. It uses a bespoke online text and a flipped classroom pedagogy, and features a central unit on Baysian statistics.
  • The Educational Collaboration Space is a flexible educational collaboration tool built to support formation of communities of educators over time and space. It is a freely available Wordpress site featuring many specially designed plugins. Visit the MIT News item about this. It was also picked up here by Inside Higher Ed. Its development was supported by the MIT Office of Educational Innovation and Technology and the NSF.
  • Crosslinks is a wiki designed to help MIT students make connections between their courses.
