To prospective graduate students, interns and postdocs

  1. Students are admitted to the graduate program, and not to research groups of individual faculty members. Sending emails to individual faculty members does not help. If you are interested in working with me, please mention this in your statement of purpose, and I will get to see it during the admissions process.

  2. It is impossible for me to evaluate your chances except by looking at your complete application. A general guideline is that we usually only admit students who are at or close to the top of their class in terms of academic strength and research potential.

  3. In the mathematics department at MIT, we do not have a Master's program.

  4. I do not have any internships for foreign undergraduates.

  5. If your email to me concerns the above points, I regret that I will not answer it.

  6. If you are currently an MIT student with research interests close to mine, you are welcome to set up a meeting to discuss any research opportunities. And if I don't respond to it, you are welcome to gently try again!

  7. If you are interested in working with me as a postdoc, I am sorry to say that I rarely have funding available for postdocs. Still you can contact me, provided that your research interests are very close to mine (for example, you must have read closely at least 2 papers of mine).
