Katrin Wehrheim

Symplectic Geometry, Low-Dimensional Topology

Katrin Wehrheim is the Rockwell International Career Development Associate Professor as of 2010 (Assistant Professor, 2007-10). She received the B.S. equiv. in mathematics and physics from the University of Hamburg in 1995, and the Diploma in physics from Imperial College in 1996. She completed the Ph.D. in mathematics at ETH Zürich in 2002, under the direction of Dietmar Salamon. Wehrheim's thesis was awarded the ETH Medal. She continued at ETH Zürich as a postdoctoral fellow, 2002-03, before going to Princeton University as instructor, 2003-04. She was a member of IAS, 2004-06 and fellow at Princeton, 2005-06. It was during this period that she joined the MIT mathematics faculty as assistant professor in 2005. Professor Wehrheim's research interests include problems in gauge theory and symplectic topology and PDEs, in particular the relations of gauge theoretic and symplectic Floer theories.
